The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Secretariat was created to provide technical support to the Manitoba Chiefs on common political, legal, and social issues relating to the First Nations communities. There are a wide number of common issues relating to each of these spheres of First Nation life.

As the political leaders of the First Nations communities the Chiefs identify the common issues they would like to address. This identification of the issues is achieved in the general Assemblies, which are held four times per year pursuant to the Constitution of the Assembly.

In order for the Chiefs to address these common issues in the best possible manner they often require extensive background information. The A.M.C. Secretariat provides this background information as well legal opinions on different options for addressing the identified issues.

Once the Chiefs have determined a course of action the A.M.C. Secretariat is given the responsibility to ensure that the process selected can proceed as smoothly as possible.
